Clare Higgins has just been announced as the winner of the Best Actress award at this year’s Laurence Olivier awards. Higgins, who starred in Vincent In Brixton at the National Cottesloe and the Wyndham’s theatre, saw off strong competition from Anita Dobson (for Frozen), Emily Watson (for Uncle Vanya) and Gwyneth Paltrow (for Proof). The award was presented by Sir Ian McKellen.
"I want to thank everybody who was associated with Vincent In Brixton which was a particularly joyous and pleasurable production to be a part of," said Higgins on accepting the award.
Vincent in Brixton also won its writer, Nicholas Wright, the BBC Award for Best New Play.
