Cast to play Game at Almeida revealed

Daniel Cerqueira, Clare Burt and Jodie McNee are amongst the cast announced to lead Mike Bartlett’s highly anticipated new play Game at the Almeida Theatre next month.

The production, which reunites director Sacha Wares and designer Miriam Buether following their work on Wild Swans, Sucker Punch and My Child, will play from 23 February to 4 April and promises to “dramatically reconfigure” the Islington’s venue’s space.

Inviting audiences to spy on a family as they explore a dangerous new way to live, the drama sheds new light on the housing crisis and will see theatregoers seated in four separate zones, each offering an unnervingly intimate view of the action.

Successful screen and stage actor Cerqueira will return the Almeida following credits in Blood Wedding and Aunt Dan & Lemon. His numerous other theatre credits include the Royal Court’s Birdland, Plasticine and The Crutch, and the Young Vic’s The Changeling and Vernon God Little, which he appeared in alongside fellow Game cast member Burt, who was most recently seen at the theatre in its acclaimed production of A Streetcar Named Desire.

RSC regular McNee makes her Almeida Theatre debut in the production following starring credits away from the venue in productions including the National Theatre’s 3 Winters and Hobson’s Choice at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

They will be joined in the cast by fellow stage regulars Susan Wokoma (The Hotel, NT and Truth And Reconciliation, Royal Court), The Curious Incident Of The Dog In Night-Time’s former leading man Mike Noble, Georgina Beedle, last seen in West End hit Peter And Alice, The Book Of Mormon’s Kevin Harvey, Ben Righton (The 39 Steps and Journey’s End, West End) and Richard Sumitro (Home Theatre and Pinocchio, Theatre Royal Stratford East).

Completing the cast is Chloe Hesar who follows screen appearances in television series including The Inbetweeners and Silent Witness to make her theatrical debut in the groundbreaking show.

Game will follow Rupert Goold’s innovative take on Shakespeare’s The Merchant Of Venice into the venue when it comes to the end of its critically acclaimed run on 14 February.
