It needn’t be said that a one-woman show demands talent. But performing a one-woman show where you take on the music of Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Maria Callas demands virtuoso levels of it. Luckily for us, the extraordinary Bernadette Robinson treated us to a simply sumptuous exclusive extract from her soul-stirring show Songs For Nobodies, currently playing at the Ambassadors Theatre.
And while taking on the Billie Holiday’s magnificent song Strange Fruit would be enough to break most voices, Bernadette’s glides through it with an incredible ease. You’ll have to watch (and listen to) it to believe it:
Songs For Nobodies was penned by Joanna Murray Smith specifically for Bernadette, and enjoyed its European premiere at London’s Wilton’s Music Hall in early 2018. This West End transfer was immediately forthcoming.
This new play with songs is directed by Simon Phillips and takes audiences on a 90-minute journey accompanied by live musicians. The show is booking until 23 February.
