Following its recent success at the Olivier Awards with MasterCard, the National Theatre’s hit production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time has extended its booking period to 25 October 2014, releasing an additional 250,000 tickets for the celebrated show.
Simon Stephens’ acclaimed adaptation, which opened at the National’s Cottesloe theatre in August last year before transferring to the Apollo, walked away with seven awards – including the coveted accolade for MasterCard Best New Play – at Sunday’s ceremony, tying with last year’s big winner Matilda The Musical as the recipient of the most Olivier Awards in one night.
Directed by Marianne Elliott, whose work on the production was rewarded with the prize for Best Director, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time features a cast including Olivier Award winner Luke Treadaway, Holly Aird, Matthew Barker, Sophie Duval, Seán Gleeson, Rhiannon Harper-Rafferty, Nick Sidi, Tilly Tremayne and Howard Ward.
Based on Mark Haddon’s Booker Prize-winning novel, the production tells the story of Christopher, a teenager with behavioural difficulties who following the discovery of his neighbour’s dead dog embarks on a mission to find the person responsible.
Described by Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall as “a visual spectacular” when it transferred to the West End in March, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time’s creative team was also recognised at last weekend’s awards, with set designers Bunny Christie and Finn Ross, lighting designer Paule Constable and sound designers Ian Dickinson and Adrian Sutton all taking home awards, while Nicola Walker, who played Christopher’s mother Judy when it played at the South Bank venue, collected the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
While the show is now booking to October next year, the current cast is confirmed to stay with the hugely successful production until September 2013.
