Handspring Puppet Company’s Woyzeck On The Highveld is magical, wondrous and darkly poetic in equal parts.

In Woyzeck On The Highveld, a migrant worker struggles to survive in a callous, inhospitable, urban landscape, which is vividly portrayed in this multi-media work featuring hand-carved puppets, animated film and haunting music.

The first collaboration between celebrated artist William Kentridge and internationally renowned Handspring Puppet Company, Woyzeck On The Highveld moves Büchner’s timeless tale to 1950s South Africa.

Founded in Cape Town in 1985, with a desire to develop puppet theatre for adults, Handspring has delighted London audiences with plays such as War Horse and Or You Could Kiss Me at the National Theatre. Now co-founder Adrian Kohler and his Tony Award-winning company return with their puppets to make their Barbican debut with Woyzeck On The Highveld.

Woyzeck On The Highveld is suitable for theatregoers aged 14 and older.
