Embellishing the traditional story of a sparring couple with a distinctly Irish setting, Caroline Byrne directs The Taming Of The Shrew as part of Shakespeare’s Globe’s Wonder Season.

Two sisters wait to be married off, but while Bianca is determined to partner up as soon as possible, the obstinate and fiercely independent Kate couldn’t think of anything worse. The catch, of course, is that the much-desired Bianca will only be granted marriage should the much-less-so Kate marry first.

But the tempestuous Kate might soon be about to meet her match in the shape of wily Petruchio, who agrees to take on the challenge for a bet. Will the fabulous and ungovernable shrew get hitched?

Shakespeare’s controversial double-act is naturally provocative, sometimes outrageous, and often hilarious and heart-warming.
