An aged countess possesses the secret of winning infallibly at cards in Tchaikovsky powerfully dark masterpiece at the London Coliseum.

Based on a short story by Alexander Pushkin, The Queen Of Spade‘s tale of greed and obsession tells of the countess’ remarkable power as an impoverished army officer resolves to wrest it from her at any price, even death.

Packed with soaring melodies and sumptuous orchestration, the production is conducted by Edward Gardner and marks his final production as ENO’s Music Director.

ENO’s first production of the opera in more than 20 years, The Queen Of Spades is directed by David Alden and features a cast including international tenor Peter Bronder, soprano Giselle Allen and renowned mezzo-soprano Felicity Palmer.

The production is sung and surtitled in English.
