The first contemporary dance company from a Chinese speaking community, Cloud Gate presents two works acclaimed for their diverse disciplines and spectacular sets.

Co-produced by Sadler’s Wells, Rice was created to celebrate Cloud Gate’s 40th anniversary and is inspired by the landscape and story of Chihshang in the East Rift Valley of Taiwan, a farming village previously tainted by the use of chemical fertilizer.

Rice plays alongside Nine Songs. Based on a series of classical Chinese poems, Nine Songs draws on ancient imagery and sensibilities to contemporary piece in which distant and recent parts collide.
