A century on from the First World War, the National Youth Theatre stages a stunning adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful.

A compelling love story that gives a touching account of the war, the production relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.

Inspired by the many soldiers court-martialled and shot for cowardice during the Great War, the poignant tale explores love, loss, war and courage, leading to a dramatic and heart-breaking conclusion.

Simon Reade’s rarely performed ensemble version plays as part of a season that also includes Selfie and Macbeth.
