Phyllida Lloyd directs Josephine And I, actress Cush Jumbo’s debut play about one woman’s connection to political activist and international icon Josephine Baker.

From the Ragtime rhythms of St Louis and the intoxicating sounds of 1920s Paris to a quiet flat in present day London, Josephine And I intertwines the story of a modern day girl striving to find her place in society with that of one of the greatest, yet forgotten, stars of the 20th century.

Starring Jumbo, the play features live music and dance, bringing to life the contemporary legacy of “…the most sensational woman anyone ever saw, and ever will.” (Hemingway).
