David Alden’s searing production of Jenufa receives its first revival since winning two Laurence Olivier Awards in 2007, including one for its star Amanda Roocroft, who returns in the title role.

Janacek’s most popular work, Jenufa is bleak – a stepmother commits an unspeakable act of cruelty – but nonetheless remains an opera where love and forgiveness triumph.
