AfroReggae was founded out of tragedy. In August ’93, the Rio police marched into the favela of Vigario Geral, known as the most violent shanty town in Rio at the time, and gunned down 21 innocent residents. The whole city went into shock. However one man, a local promoter Jose Junior decided to act and AfroReggae was born. Now the band tour internationally, using powerful lyrics and defiant drums to expose the violence that threatens their people. They work with young people all over the world to share their skills.
