Steven Webb, currently seen in Waterloo East theatre’s musical Departure Lounge, is to play Dick Whittington in the Lyric Hammersmith’s forthcoming pantomime, with West End regular Paul J Medford as his cat.
Webb’s stage credits also include The History Boys, Chatroom/Citizenship and On The Shore Of The Wide World at the National Theatre, Sh*t-M*x and Public Property at Trafalgar Studios and The Long Road at the Soho theatre. He has been seen on television in BAFTA-winning children’s miniseries The Magician’s House and, more recently, the third series of The Inbetweeners.
Medford was one of the original cast of Five Guys Named Moe at the Lyric theatre. Since then he has appeared in Mother Clap’s Molly House at the National Theatre, The Lion King at the Lyceum and, just recently, the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Sweet Charity, which transferred to the West End.
The cast of Dick Whittington And His Cat also includes Kulvinder Ghir (TV’s Goodness Gracious Me), Rosalind James (Gone With The Wind at the New London theatre) and Simon Kunz, who appeared with Ghir in Comedians at the Lyric Hammersmith. Shaun Prendergast (The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice at the Vaudeville theatre) will take on dame duties to play Sarah the Cook.
The Lyric Hammersmith’s festive offering is written by Joel Horwood and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, with direction by Steve Marmion. All three collaborated on last year’s pantomime at the venue, Jack And The Beanstalk.
Dick Whittington And His Cat plays from 27 November to 8 January (press night 3 December).
