Five of Rudyard Kipling’s classic Just So Stories are to be staged at the Pleasance theatre, Islington, from 5 to 25 April.
The production, designed for children aged four and older and their families, was originally seen at the King’s Head theatre during the Christmas period.
Produced by Red Table theatre company, the show encourages children to get comfy in a pile of duvets and cushions as storytellers recreate five of Kipling’s animal tales using objects found in an attic.
Billed as an anecdote to our reliance on manufactured and computerised entertainment, the production aims to help children use their imaginations by playing with everyday objects.
Kipling, who died in 1936, was a Nobel Prize-winning poet and novelist whose best known work is probably The Jungle Book. The Just So Stories, written in 1902, are a set of short stories aimed at children that include the tales The Elephant’s Child and The Crab That Played With The Sea, both of which feature in Red Table’s stage production.
