Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre brings the beloved mean green monster plant musical Little Shop Of Horrors to its unique outdoor setting.
Little Shop Of Horrors is set in the dilapidated Skid Row, where for a bunch of misfits, life is full of broken dreams and dead ends. But suddenly, there’s hope on the horizon for flower shop assistant, Seymour, when he discovers a mysterious new plant… with killer potential and a voracious appetite.
Will his newfound fame and fortune win the attention of kind, sweet, delicate Audrey? Can he finally break free and be happy… whatever the consequences? And how much will Seymour sacrifice to live the life of his dreams?
Little Shop Of Horrors is the stage musical of Roger Corman’s hilariously zany film, with screenplay by Charles Griffith. A horror comedy rock musical, popular songs include the likes of Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That’s Green, and Suddenly, Seymour.
Its book and lyrics are by Howard Ashman, with music from Alan Menken, who has written for numerous Disney films including Aladdin and Hercules.
Marc Antolin returns to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre following appearances in Hello, Dolly! and Into The Woods to star as Seymour, with One Man, Two Guvnors’ and Hand To God’s Jemima Rooper as Audrey. U.S. drag queen Vicky Vox plays plant Audrey II, while Matt Willis, bassist, vocalist and writer for Busted, will play the gleefully sadistic dentist Orin.
Making her Open Air Theatre debut, this production of Little Shop Of Horrors is directed by Maria Aberg. Maria’s recent work includes Dr Faustus, Marlowe’s tale of soul-selling which the plot of Little Shop Of Horrors reflects thematically. Her other theatre credits include The White Devil and As You Like It (both with the Royal Shakespeare Company).
The production reunites much of the creative team behind Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre smash-hits Jesus Christ Superstar, including designer Tom Scutt and musical supervisor Tom Deering, and On The Town, including lighting designer Howard Hudson.
