Following critically acclaimed seasons at the National Theatre, the West Yorkshire Playhouse and a world tour, Inua Ellams’ massively acclaimed Barber Shop Chronicles arrives at the Roundhouse this summer.

A mix of comedy, drama and intimacy, Barber Shop Chronicles features characters from across the globe as the action journeys from a barber shop in London, to Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos and Accra.

Newsroom, political platform, local hot-spot, confession box, preacher-pulpit and football stadium; for generations, African men have gathered in barber shops to discuss the world. These are places where the banter can be barbed and the truth is always telling.

Directed by Olivier award-winning director Bijan Sheibani and designed by Rae Smith (War Horse), Barber Shop Chronicles is a heart-warming, hilarious and insightful new play.

Barber Shop Chronicles opens on 18 July and plays until 24 August 2019, telling its joyous and life-affirming story during a sure-to-be popular return to London.
