Theatre starts early at Unicorn

First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 21 April 2008

It is never too young to start going to the theatre, according to the Unicorn. The Southwark children’s theatre presents an interactive show this August especially for babies as young as six months old.

Baby Balloon, by theatre company Oily Cart, invites an audience of 10 babies (aged 6 months to 2 years old) and their carers to enter a magical world of balloons, in an exploration of the senses of touch, sound, smell and sight. A giant balloon starts to glow and two playful dancers emerge from inside to invite the audience to explore the colours, music and textures of their airy world using props, animation and video.

Founded in 1981, Oily Cart aims to create a unique blend of multi-sensory and interactive theatre for very young children and young people with complex disabilities, and tours its shows to schools and venues across the UK. Baby Balloon is written and directed by Oily Cart Artistic Director Tim Webb.

Baby Balloon plays at the Unicorn from 15-26 August.
