The Gruffalo makes summer 2019 West End return

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved story of The Gruffalo will return to the West End again this summer, marking the 20th birthday of the much-loved picture book.

The hit musical adaptation of the well-known story will be back at London’s Lyric Theatre from Wednesday 3 July to Sunday 8 September 2019, playing a limited ten-week season.

Tall Stories’ now-iconic take on the Donaldson and Scheffler classic combines music, laughter and physical theatre to tell the story of Mouse as she sets off on a daring adventure in search of hazelnuts.

Young theatregoers can follow Mouse as she meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party-mad Snake, outwitting them with her tale about a creature with turned-out toes and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose.

The Gruffalo book, written by Donaldson and illustrated by Scheffler, was published by Macmillan Children’s Book in 1999. It was later adapted for the stage by Tall Stories in 2001, and has since been delighting audiences around the world.

Following a number of previous runs in London, the much-loved deep dark wood-dwelling creation has become a family favourite in the West End. The show arrives there at the culmination of a UK tour, and is suitable for children aged three-years-old and older.
