First Published 10 December 2009, Last Updated 8 March 2012

A special edition of The Sunday Times’s Spectrum supplement, available this weekend, brings together more than 80 of London theatre’s most lauded and acclaimed actors, directors, writers and producers of 2009.

The 18-page photo special, created in collaboration with the Society of London Theatre’s Celebrate the Play initiative, includes exclusive pictures of stage stars including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Gambon, Juliet Stevenson and Anna Friel.

The historic photo shoot brings together most of the major players in a year of London drama that is being referred to as a golden age. From the Donmar Warehouse’s influential season at the Wyndham’s theatre to a succession of hit West End revivals and the hugely acclaimed Enron and Jerusalem at the Royal Court, London’s drama scene has been has been championed by the critics, praised by the public and loved by the headline writers in the past year.

Half way through December and there is still more to come, with The Misanthrope, which stars Keira Knightley in her West End debut and is reportedly one of the fastest-selling shows of the year, opening next week.

For more about The Sunday Times photo shoot check back on Official London Theatre on Monday, when we will have a behind the scenes feature.
