Soho Cinders gets charity premiere

First Published 27 July 2011, Last Updated 27 July 2011

Soho Cinders, the latest musical from writing duo Stiles and Drewe, is to be given a one-off world premiere concert at the Novello theatre on 9 October.

The concert performance, which features a cast including Kerry Ellis, Hannah Waddingham and David Bedella, is being staged in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

A modern take on the Cinderella tale, the show’s story revolves around the complicated love life of prospective Mayoral candidate James Prince and his law-student lover Robbie, who has a rather unorthodox way of paying his college bills.

Soho Cinders is the latest musical from the writing partnership behind new West End hit Betty Blue Eyes and the Olivier Award-winning Honk! The duo also contributed new songs to the much-loved stage adaptation of Mary Poppins.

The cast, which also includes comedienne Sandy Toksvig, features two actresses with a history of playing West End witches: Ellis, who has played Elphaba in Wicked on both sides of the Atlantic, and Waddingham, who moved from playing the Witch in the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Into The Woods to starring as the Wicked Witch Of The West in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard Of Oz. Co-star Bedella, who can currently be seen in Road Show at the Menier Chocolate Factory, is best known for his spell playing Satan in Jerry Springer The Opera.
