Shows go Live in Leicester Square

First Published 22 April 2008, Last Updated 25 April 2008

Some 15 major London shows are already confirmed on the line up of this year’s free outdoor theatre festival, West End Live. The annual event, now in its fourth year, takes place from 11:00 to 18:00 on 21 and 22 June in Leicester Square.

Organised by Westminster City Council, this year’s event will feature performances from some of the capital’s top shows, including Avenue Q, Buddy, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Jersey Boys, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Into The Hoods, Mamma Mia!, Never Forget, The Lord Of The Rings, The Sound Of Music, Stomp, We Will Rock You and Wicked.

This year’s West End Live takes place in the centenary year of the Society of London Theatre (SOLT). To celebrate 100 years of London theatre, SOLT will host a special pavilion featuring interactive activities and make up demonstrations throughout the weekend.

The 150,000 expected visitors to West End Live may also be serenaded by musicians from Shakespeare’s Globe’s production of King Lear, playing medieval instruments including the hurdy-gurdy, bone flutes and long wooden trumpets.

In addition to the theatrical extravaganza, other family-friendly activities taking place across the weekend include hands-on exhibitions from several London museums, a celebration of 50 years of Lego and animation workshops from the British Film Institute.
