First Published 28 February 2012, Last Updated 6 March 2012

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s hit production of Matilda The Musical is set to open in New York at the beginning of 2013.

The musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic story, which is currently playing at the Cambridge theatre, has been delighting audiences of all ages since it transferred from the Courtyard theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in October last year.

Although further information about the upcoming production is yet to be announced, preliminary auditions for adult casting will take place in New York in March this year.

Written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by the Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical has been showered with critical praise and recently received four gongs at the Whatsonstage.com Awards including Best New Musical.

The magical musical about a girl with extraordinary powers will be hoping to recreate this phenomenal success on the other side of the Atlantic next year.
