Kids Week back bigger and better for 2011

First Published 17 June 2011, Last Updated 23 June 2011

Kids Week, London’s most exciting family theatrical event, is back for its 14th year this summer, with a jam-packed line-up of shows, events and workshops taking part in the ticket discount extravaganza.

Organised by the Society of London Theatre, Kids Week runs from 12 to 26 August and offers families the chance to see some of the most popular and exciting shows in the West End for an amazing discount.

The deal is simple, for every full paying adult ticket purchased you receive a ticket for a child aged up to 16 absolutely free. You can also purchase up to two further children’s tickets half price.

This year’s stellar line-up of shows includes hit musicals Disney’s The Lion King, Shrek The Musical, The Wizard Of Oz and Legally Blonde The Musical. Play lovers can take their children to see the Olivier Award-winning The Railway Children, War Horse, Pygmalion or, for younger audiences, The Tiger Who Came To Tea. For audiences after something sillier, Potted Potter promises plenty of laughs and audience interaction and West End hit The 39 Steps will have you rolling with laughter in the aisles. The list goes on and on.

The fun doesn’t end there. As well as making a family trip to the theatre more affordable, Kids Week also opens the doors to the exciting world behind the scenes of London’s Theatreland. This year children can learn how to dance with a member of the We Will Rock You company, discover just how Legally Blonde’s Brooke Wyndham sings and skips at the same time or go beyond the barricade at Les Misérables and try out some West End rehearsal techniques.

With behind the scenes tours and post show Q & As also on offer, there is something for every age group and audience member. Young theatre enthusiasts aged 12 to 16 can even gain a valuable insight into working in the industry on the Dewynters Theatre Marketing Uncovered event.

Emma De Souza, the Society of London Theatre’s Development Manager and organiser of Kids Week, said: “I am delighted to announce the exciting line-up of shows taking part in the 14th Kids Week in the West End. This year sees some fabulous new family shows on board and of course the return of some much-loved favourites. Kids Week gives many children their first ever taste of live theatre, and it is wonderful to see them return each summer to enjoy our Kids Go Free ticket deals and exclusive show-linked activities. Whether they are peeking backstage, rubbing shoulders with the stars or enjoying the magic of performing on a West End stage it is a theatrical experience they will remember forever.”

Tickets go on sale on 12 July and you can find full details of all the shows, workshops and activities on offer on the Kids Week website.
