JLC toasts Chicago’s 11th birthday

Published 28 November 2008

Comedian and television presenter Justin Lee Collins is to take to the Cambridge theatre stage for three performances only to celebrate sexy musical Chicago’s 11th London birthday.

The Friday Night Project co-host is to play the part of hard done by husband Amos Hart at performances on 4 and 5 December. His experiences in rehearsal and on stage will be filmed for a documentary to be shown on Sky 1 in 2009.

Collins, who has previously made documentaries about reuniting the A-Team, performing as a tribute act and becoming a clown, will star in a cast that includes Aoife Mulholland, Tiffany Graves, Ian Kelsey, Victor McGuire and Brenda Edwards.

Speaking about his West End adventure, Collins said “I’m over the moon to be playing the sexiest part in the best show on the West End stage. I’ve already gone through a dozen pairs of tights.”

Amusical tale of murderous showgirls and their manipulation of their infamous reputations to enhance their careers, Chicago opened in London at the Adelphi theatre in 1997, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical a year later. The production transferred to the Cambridge theatre in 2006, where it celebrated its 10th London anniversary last year with a special star-studded one-off performance which brought back many of the show’s celebrity alumni.
