Hynes and Cox join 24 Hour Plays

Published 4 November 2011

Jessica Hynes and Charlie Cox are the latest high profile actors to join the stellar cast of the Old Vic’s annual 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala.

Hynes, who starred in the Old Vic production of The Norman Conquests, and Cox, last seen in the Donmar’s The Prince Of Homburg, join a line up that also includes Jane Asher, Lily Cole, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Brendan Cole, Mackenzie Crook, Janie Dee, Lisa Dillon, Freddie Fox, Robert Glenister, Anthony Head, Ruthie Henshall, Matthew Horne, David Horovitch, Gina McKee, Sophia Myles, Katherine Parkinson, Julian Sands, Josette Simon, Nina Sosanya, Rachael Stirling, Isy Suttie, Indira Varma and this year’s Olivier Award Best Actress Nancy Carroll.

An annual event, the 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala gives the team of high profile performers, directors and writers the opportunity to create under the strictest of deadlines. Coming together for the first time at 22:00 on Saturday 12 November, they must write and rehearse six brand new plays in time to be performed for the Sunday night gala audience.

Speaking about the event, Kevin Spacey, Artistic Director of the Old Vic, said: “The 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala is a theatrical event unlike any other. It challenges some of this generation’s greatest actors, writers and directors to create plays that will exist for one night only – a truly unique night at the theatre. I’m excited to have such a great cast in our eighth year.”

The past seven years of this special event have raised more than £750,000 for the Old Vic Theatre Trust and Old Vic New Voices, the company’s award-winning education and community department.

Tickets to the gala performance can be purchased by contacting the Old Vic’s box office (£75 tickets only) on 0844 871 7628 or the Gala Hotline (£125 and £250 tickets) on 020 7401 9280.
