Free theatre festival returns in June

First Published 21 April 2010, Last Updated 10 May 2010

West End LIVE, the annual festival of free theatre which fills Leicester Square with the best of London’s world-beating stage offerings, is to return on 19 and 20 June.

The world’s largest free theatre festival has built a reputation for bringing a taste of what Theatreland has to offer to the streets of London. Last year the line-up of performances included hit shows Chicago, Jersey Boys, Wicked, Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage, We Will Rock You, Avenue Q, Thriller Live, Oliver! and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical. This year’s selection of shows promises to be even bigger and better.

The two-day event, which is organised by Westminster City Council, also includes activities, exhibitions and stalls to entertain anyone of any age and highlight the many attractions London’s West End has to offer.

Speaking about the event, which is expected to attract more than 200,000 people to Leicester Square over the course of the weekend, Nica Burns, President of the Society of London Theatre, said: “London has the best theatre in the world and West End LIVE is a fantastic opportunity for people to sample some of the West End’s most popular shows for free”.

In 2010, Official London Theatre has joined West End LIVE as a media partner. Between now and the event we will be keeping theatregoers up to date with the latest news about confirmed acts and special appearances, so keep checking the site for the best West End LIVE coverage.
