Bush hit Elling transfers to Trafalgar Studios

First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 21 April 2008

The Bush theatre's sell-out hit Elling, which saw Life On Mars star John Simm return to the London stage for the first time in 11 years, transfers to Trafalgar Studio 1 from 6 July. The comedy will enjoy a three-month run at the former Whitehall theatre. Simm is joined in the cast by Adrian Bower, Jonathan Cecil, Keir Charles and Ingrid Lacey.

Elling is based on the Oscar-nominated Norwegian film of the same name. It follows the title character and roommate Kjell, who have spent years living an institutionalised life, as they take their first steps into the outside world. With a flat in the city as their home, all they have to do to avoid returning to the asylum is convince the social worker that they really are 'normal'.

Simm is best known for his television roles, which include Life On Mars, State Of Play, Sex Traffic and The Lakes. Simm's previous London stage credit also came at the Bush, when he starred in Goldhawk Road, written by Simon Bent and directed by Paul Miller. Bent and Miller are also part of the Elling team, Miller again directing and Bent writing the English adaptation.

Simm's co-star Adrian Bower is another actor best known for his television work which includes school-set comedy Teachers and OCD drama Dirty Filthy Love.

Elling is booking at the Trafalgar Studio 1 until 6 October.
