Barbican celebrates Olympic anniversary

Published May 17, 2013

To mark the first year anniversary of the London 2012 Games’ Opening Ceremony, the Barbican theatre has announced plans to host a family festival in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Working alongside Create London, the Barbican will present Open East Festival In The Park on 27 and 28 July, a weekend packed full of theatrical entertainment, as well as music, food and art, all inspired by East London.

The full line-up for Open East Festival is still to be confirmed, but the Barbican has revealed there will be performances and workshops from regular collaborators Theatre Royal Stratford East and Boy Blue Entertainment. The festival will also offer promenade musical performances, a pop-up theatre, family trails, picnics along the riverbank and a sprinkling of magic.

Also on hand to keep children entertained will be The Discover Children’s Story Centre, which will offer its trademark interactive storytelling alongside arts and crafts workshops.

Tickets for the festival are £9.50 for adults and £6 for under-16s. For the latest updates to the weekend’s line-up, visit www.noordinarypark.co.uk
