The Beauty Queen Of Leenane is the first play in a trilogy by playwright Martin McDonagh.

High in the mountains of Connemara lives lonely spinster Maureen with her devilishly manipulative mother Mag. Maureen longs for the romance that will spirit her away. But if she goes, who will stir the lumps out of Mag’s complan?

The Beauty Queen Of Leenane established McDonagh’s reputation on its premiere at the Royal Court in 1996, winning him Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle awards and a Laurence Olivier Award nomination. It subsequently transferred to Broadway where it won a Tony Award for Best Play.

In addition to The Beauty Quenn Of Leenane, McDonagh’s other work includes The Pillowman and The Lieutenant Of Inishmore, as well as the film In Bruges, which he wrote and directed.
