The Cat In The Hat is a colourful adaptation of Dr Seuss’s picture book, devised as an introduction to theatre for three to six year olds.

From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas, he is certainly fun to play with. And he turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure.
But what will mum find when she gets home…?

First published in 1957, Dr Seuss’s curious rhyming tale The Cat In The Hat is still adored 50 years on with over 10 million copies in print today. Dr Seuss’s other classic books for children include How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

The Cat In The Hat’s director Katie Mitchell returns to the Young Vic following her 2008 production of After Dido and her 2007 production of The Jewish Wife. Mitchell’s other Young Vic work includes The Maids and Uncle Vanya, while at the National Theatre she has directed 11 productions including Women Of Troy, Waves and The Seagull.

This production of The Cat In The Hat was originally created for the National’s Cottesloe Theatre.
